Tonality

Tonality serves as a pictorial representation of positive and visually appealing images that fashion publications could use to represent American women’s skin tonal diversity. Tonality’s images do not contain professional models, but everyday women such as college students, mothers, grandmothers, friends and career women that I met in the subways and streets of New York. As a female photographer, I desire to reclaim the image of female beauty from the male gaze and reinterpret the female image through the perspective of a woman. Removed from bias based on age, skin tone, culture, religion, and the over sexualization of women, Tonality’s content is designed by women for women. My hope is for Tonality to aid in bringing awareness to the limited presence of women of color in media designed for women. As well as, create a holistic image of the splendor of diversity, which genuinely illustrates the true reality of multiplicity and femininity in America.
